Mansoura University’s Faculty of Law Team Achieves Global Success at the Nuremberg Moot Court in Germany
In a new international accomplishment that adds to its record of academic excellence, the student team from the Faculty of Law at Mansoura University secured a top-ranking position in the Nuremberg Moot Court—a prestigious global competition in international criminal law. The event was held in Courtroom 600 at the historic Palace of Justice in Nuremberg, Germany, the site of the post-World War II trials of Nazi war criminals.
The team’s participation was made possible under the esteemed patronage of Prof. Dr. Sherif Youssef Khater, President of Mansoura University, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Attia El-Bayoumi, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs. The team’s preparation was led and supervised by Prof. Dr. Walid El-Shenawy, Dean of the Faculty of Law.
The Nuremberg Moot Court is regarded as one of the most prominent international competitions in the field of international criminal law. This year, it welcomed 137 renowned universities from around the world. Mansoura University’s team was accepted in January, following a formal application, and subsequently underwent an intensive six-month preparation journey.
During this period, the team drafted two legal memoranda in English—one for the prosecution and one for the defense—addressing topics related to war crimes and incitement to genocide. Their outstanding performance in the written evaluation phase secured them a place among the top 35 universities globally, qualifying for the final round of oral pleadings.
What makes this achievement particularly notable is that Mansoura University was the sole representative from Egypt and the Arab world in the oral rounds—an unprecedented milestone that reflects the team's academic and linguistic excellence, as well as their ability to thrive in a highly competitive international environment.
This achievement reinforces Mansoura University’s position on the global academic stage and its leadership role in empowering students to participate in international legal competitions. It also aligns with Egypt's national strategy for excellence in education and human capital development, in line with Egypt Vision 2030.
The team demonstrated outstanding competence by winning all preliminary rounds and delivering strong performances in subsequent stages before an international panel of judges that included senior members of the International Criminal Court and leading international law experts. As a result, they were awarded 8th place worldwide in the final ranking.
